Clay County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Clay County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page:
On March 19, 2026, at approximately 12:05 p.m., the Clay County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 5000 block of Ridge Road for a report of an active domestic violence incident.
When deputies arrived, they met with the involved parties, collected statements and evidence at the scene. After doing so, deputies believed that the suspect had committed the offense of domestic battery. When deputies attempted to take the suspect into custody, he attempted to flee from the deputies into his camper. When one of the deputies grabbed the suspect trying to prevent him from getting in the camper, the suspect slammed the door on the deputy’s arm, cutting his arm. The suspect continued to resist, which resulted in one of the deputies deploying his Taser in order to gain compliance from the suspect. The suspect was secured in a squad car and transported to the jail. The deputy did not require any medical attention and finished the remainder of his shift.
As a result of this incident Eric Vaultonberg, 50, of Edgewood, was arrested for the offenses of Aggravated Domestic Battery, Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer and Resisting a Peace Officer (resulting in injury). Vaultonberg appeared in Clay County Court earlier today and was denied pretrial release. The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
