On Wednesday, March 4thm the Mattoon Police Department assisted the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force with an investigation in the general area of Mattoon High School. Due to the number of officers present, Mattoon CUSD #2 was notified of the situation.
Out of an abundance of caution, the high school was placed on soft lockdown, which prevented students and staff from leaving the building. The investigation concluded a short time later, and the lockdown was lifted.
at approximately 12pm, task force agents located an individual identified in their investigation traveling in a vehicle. He was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant from the state of Minnesota.
There was no direct threat to the school. The actions taken by law enforcement and the school district were precautionary and intended to ensure the safety of the students and staff.
Mattoon Police appreciate the strong relationship with Mattoon CUSD #2 and remain committed to keeping school safety a top priority.
