Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Effingham’s City Plan Commission on Tuesday approved the 2050 Comprehensive Plan, with housing remaining a central concern. Brian Meyers, a commission member active with the PAVE organization and local realtor, questioned whether anyone is clearly responsible for managing the city’s housing process, sparking vigorous discussion about oversight and future strategies. Mel Stock, a local banker, expressed disappointment that no significant progress has been seen in addressing housing needs, stressing that the city must take a leadership role. The commission clarified that addressing housing will require coordinated actions.
The City Council will review the plan at its upcoming meeting, with a vote slated for March.
Additionally, a site plan for Rumpke Landfill upgrades received commission approval. Deliberations on allowing short-term rental properties were postponed until March.
