Mattoon, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Mattoon Police today received a call from the Kalamazoo, MI Department of Public Safety about an armed robbery suspect with an active warrant they believed was in Mattoon. Police responded to a hotel parking lot on East Broadway Avenue where they believed the suspect was located. When officers approached, the suspect told officers that he would take his own life before going back to prison. The suspect then shot himself and was later pronounced deceased at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.
The Illinois State Police are investigating the incident. No additional information is available at this time.
