Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- On January 14th, 2026, the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sullivan J. Chern, 22, of Sigel, Illinois, for Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse and Sexual Exploitation of a Child.
During the early morning hours of January 14th 2026, an Effingham County Deputy observed an occupied vehicle parked near the Lake Sara Beach. Upon making contact the Deputy determined that the two occupants of the vehicle were Chern, and a female juvenile. A subsequent investigation by Deputies and Effingham County Investigators led to Chern’s arrest.
This is an on–going investigation and additional charges are expected. Chern remains in the custody of the Effingham County Jail, after he was detained at his pre–trial detention hearing on January 15th.
Chern is charged with:
- Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, a Class 2 Felony
- Sexual Exploitation of a Child, a Class A Misdemeanor
Chern should be considered innocent of all allegations until proven guilty in a court of law.
