Teutopolis, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Mrs. Sherry Hoehn, Principal of Teutopolis Grade School, has been named the 2026 Wabash Valley Region Winner of the Illinois Principals Association Reaching Out & Building Bridges Award.
Superintendent Matt Sturgeon commended, “Principal Hoehn’s leadership has strengthened student voice and local partnerships. Our Wooden Shoe community is proud to celebrate her as a model of excellence in educational leadership.”
This award recognizes principals and community partners who demonstrate outstanding efforts in creating partnerships between schools, associations, and organizations for the betterment of education and children. Mrs. Hoehn was honored for her leadership in fostering student engagement and community collaboration through the newly created Teutopolis Grade School Student Council, which has strengthened connections between students, staff, and the broader community.
In only its second year, the Teutopolis Grade School Student Council has already made an impact through a variety of service projects. Highlights include raising funds through snack carts to support Neoga Schools after a tornado, collecting nonperishable food items for Catholic Charities, creating cards for nursing home residents, and donating to a school family who lost their home to fire. These efforts reflect the mission to empower students while strengthening our Wooden Shoe schools and community, and highlight the council’s growing role as a force for positive impact.
“She empowers young people to see themselves as capable of making a difference, and that impact will stay with them long after they leave Teutopolis Grade School”, said TGS Student Co-Council Sponsor Sarah Schabbing. Co-Sponsor Samantha Field further noted, “Working alongside Mrs. Hoehn has been inspiring for both our students and staff. Her vision for the Student Council has given students a real voice in shaping their school experience, while also teaching the importance of leadership and service.”
As part of this recognition, Mrs. Hoehn will receive a plaque and a $750 honorarium at the Education Leaders Annual Conference hosted by the Illinois Principals Association later in 2026.
