Edgewood, IL-(Effingham Radio)- At approximately 1:45 pm on Monday, April 18, 2022, the Effingham County Sheriff‘s Department responded to a one vehicle crash on the Mason Road (300th Ave.) at 600th St. in rural Edgewood, Illinois. A-1 Ambulance also responded to the scene. The driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Effingham County Coroner’s Office.
The driver was identified as Cody J. Blair, age 17 of Farina, Illinois.
Preliminary investigation revealed the driver was eastbound on the Mason Road (300th Ave.) at 600th St. when he ran off the road, crossed a private drive and entered the ditch on the south side of the roadway. The vehicle then went airborne and rolled several times finally landing in the ditch on the south side of the roadway.
It appears a medical issue may have contributed to the crash. Medical records were requested and toxicology samples were taken by the coroner‘s office to assist in the investigation. The investigation is continuing by the Coroner’s office and the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department.
