Springfield, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Illinois’ first weekend of shotgun deer season was a good one for hunters.
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources late last week released the harvest total from the first weekend, and the numbers show hunters bagged more deer than the year before.
Hunters brought in 58,836 deer last weekend.
That compares to 51,450 deer during the first weekend of shotgun season last year.
Hunters will have two more chances to head back into the field over the next two weeks.
