Springfield, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Illinois farmers are going to have a shot at a new cash crop.
Governor Rauner over the weekend signed a new law to allow farmers in the state to grow industrial hemp.
The governor says hemp has a tremendous upside in plastics, paper, fiber, and cloth.
The Illinois Department of Agriculture will monitor hemp crops, to make sure that farmers aren’t growing anything with too high THC levels.
