EFFINGHAM, IL-(Effingham Radio)- One person was injured in an accident that occurred in Effingham on Friday morning.
A report from the Illinois State Police stated that the accident occurred on I-70 eastbound at milepost 162 at 7:18am.
The report states that a vehicle driven by 23 year old, Emmanuel Chapman, of Troy, Michigan was traveling eastbound on I-57/70 at milepost 162.
Chapman told authorities that he fell asleep, left the south side of the roadway, striking the guardrail, and crossing the center lanes of traffic.
The vehicle then left the north side of the roadway, struck the concrete medina barrier, and came to a rest in the middle lane of traffic.
Chapman’s passenger, 36 year old, Michael Howd, of Flint, Michigan was taken to HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Chapman was cited for improper lane usage, driving a commercial vehicle while fatigued, possession of cannabis while in a commercial vehicle, driving while under the influence of drugs, and possession of cannabis.
