SALEM, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Charges have been issued in a fatal accident that occurred south of Salem on Thursday.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, the accident occurred at 4:37am on I-57 northbound at mile post 1113.7, 2 miles south of Salem.
The report states that a vehicle driven by 21 year old, Johnathan Trotter, of Evansville was traveling northbound on I-57.
The Trotter vehicle then rear-ended a motorcycle driven by 23 year old, Mason Wathan, of Centralia.
As a result, Wathan was killed in the accident and traffic was shut down until approximately 10:00am.
Trotter sustained injuries and was cited for reckless homicide, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and driving while license is suspended.
