SUMNER, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Two teenagers were injured in an accident that occurred in Sumner on Friday evening.
According to a press release from the Illinois State Police, the accident occurred on Christy Ave, approximately half of a miles south of Sumner, at 5:47pm.
The report states that a 17 year old male from Sumner was traveling southbound on Christy Ave.
At the same time, a 17 year old male from Lawrenceville was traveling northbound at the same location.
The Lawrenceville teen reportedly told authorities that the two were acquaintances and jokingly swerved at each other.
As the vehicles met, the Sumner teen’s vehicle struck the Lawrenceville teen’s driver’s side door, forcing the vehicle off of the roadway.
Both vehicles then caught fire, quickly becoming fully-engulfed.
Passngers removed both drivers from their vehicles.
The Sumner teen was flown to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
The Lawrenceville teen was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes where he was later taken to Deaconess Hosptial.
