SPRINGFIELD, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Could sports betting be the newest discussion among Illinois politicians?
After a recent decision by the United States Supreme Court to strike down a law that prevented states from enacting sports betting, the talk in Springfield has been about sports betting in Illinois.
We spoke with Illinois Chamber of Commerce President Todd Maisch recently about sports betting.
According to Maisch, he expects political forces to push forward with allowing sports betting in Illinois.
Maisch says that sports betting is one of the lowest margins of gaming available and is not going to save the state budget or fund state projects alone.
However, Maisch is encouraging residents to start a conversation with their local government now about sports betting in their area.
He suggests looking at what limitations need to be in place, like if it should be available in gas stations like video gaming or limited to just a casino setting.
