MATTOON, IL-(EFFINGHAM RADIO)- One person was airlifted to Carle Hospital following an accident that occurred in Mattoon on Monday.
According to a press release from the Illinois State Police, the accident occurred at 12:07pm on I-57 Southbound at milepost 189.
The release states that a semi driven by 41 year old, Jason R Engle, of Greenwood, Indiana was broke down in the left lane of I-57.
Engle had turned on the emergency hazard lights and had triangles out.
At the same time, a vehicle driven by 33 year old, Marcus C Abston, of Harvey, Illinois was traveling southbound on I-57 and struck the rear of the semi.
The Abston vehicle then rolled over and came to a rest on its top.
Abston was injured in the accident and flown to Carle Hospital for treatment.
The Illinois State Police reported that Engle was cited for improper stopping on the roadway.
