Twist the Night Away with Chubby Checker – Fri., May 11th at 7:00pm at the EPC
EFFINGHAM, IL -(Effingham Radio)- Legendary recording artist and dance pioneer, Chubby Checker, comes to the Effingham Performance Center on Friday, May 11th at 7:00pm.
Chubby Checker is the only artist to have a song hit #1 twice -“The Twist” – and the only artist to have 5 albums in the Top 12 all at once.
In the fall of 1961, Chubby made record industry history when “The Twist”; re-entered the charts and by January of 1962, it was back in the #1 position.
No other record before or since has accomplished that feat. The Twist was not only the #1 song, but it sparked a nationwide dance craze.
Over the next few years, endless songs incorporating The Twist sprang up, such as “Peppermint Twist”, “Twist and Shout”, and “Twistin the Night Away”
Chubby reached a number of other impressive milestones in the years after; He returned to the charts again with Billboard’s #1 dance track in 2007, called “Knock Down the
Walls," which introduced Chubby to a whole new audience with its powerful straight ahead rock tempo and Chubby’;s continuous musical evolution.
