EFFINGHAM, IL -(Effingham Radio)- As of 1:30pm Today, The Illinois Department of Public Health has announced 107 cases of severe bleeding, (including 3 deaths) linked to Synthetic Cannabinoids.
According to their latest report most of the cases are in North & North Central Illinois, However currently 2 cases are still under investigation.
This also does not say that the product is not in other parts of the state.
Further details of the latest report also indicated that Synthetic Users are mostly within 25-34 years of age; trailing behind is the age bracket of 35-44.
These details do not include 9 cases that are still under investigation.
According to IDPH, ” Synthetic cannabinoids are human-made, mind-altering chemicals that are either sprayed on dried, shredded plant material so they can be smoked or sold as liquids to be vaporized and inhaled in e-cigarettes and other devices.”
These products are a legal, and marketed by companies as a “safer” alternative to cannabis, however IDPH corrected those claims stating, ” In fact, they are not safe and affect the brain much more powerfully than marijuana; their actual effects can be unpredictable and, in some cases, more dangerous, even life-threatening.”
