NEWTON,IL -(Effingham Radio)- The Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ Conservation Police is seeking help from the public regarding the recent shooting of 6 white pelicans at Newton Lake in Jasper County.
Earlier today IDNR released details of an incident in which employees discovered 5 dead white pelicans as well as one injured, and according to police it was discovered on April 3rd.
The injured pelican was immediately taken in for treatment at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine by Conservation Police.
It was determined that all 6 Pelicans were shot, and officials say it happened “near the dam on the south end of the lake, considered a popular location for the pelicans to congregate.
