CHICAGO, IL-(Effingham Radio)-Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan wants lawmakers to require better medical treatment for survivors of sexual assault.
Madigan says victims should be seen by hospital staff who have been specially trained as sexual assault nurse examiners.
Madigan is backing a bill to require hospitals to make these so-called “SANE” nurses available in emergency rooms.
She said it helps victims cope with the trauma and helps make sure prosecutors have the evidence they need for take cases to court.
In addition, the bill allows young sexual assault survivors to have an exam done in a pediatric facility.
