Effingham, Ill. (Springfield, Ill.) – The jury is still out on whether Illinois’ lockbox for roads is helping.
“The State Journal Register” yesterday reported the two-year-old sequester for money earmarked only for roads has not yet proven its worth.
Supporters, like the Illinois Road and Transportation Builders Association, say they are still ‘evaluating’ the idea.
Voters overwhelmingly approved the concept in 2016 to make sure gas tax money and other dollars dedicated for roads in Illinois would only be spent on roads.
