(Springfield, IL) — Thousands of state of Illinois employees could be in line for a pay raise. The state’s supreme court this week refused to hear an appeal over step raises. Those are pay bumps based on how long a state worker has been on the job. Governor Rauner has refused to pay the raises because his office says lawmakers have not found the money to cover the costs. The governor’s office says the state’s Labor Relations Board will now have to decide if workers will get their money, or if lawmakers will have to find a way to pay for it first.
