(Springfield, IL) — Turns out Governor Bruce Rauner wasn’t pumping up the numbers. The governor told lawmakers during a budget speech last month that it cost 100-thousand-dollars a year to heat, cool, and keep the lights and water on at the governor’s mansion. Rauner used the story as a way to push lawmakers to be better stewards of taxpayer dollars. “The State Journal Register” in Springfield ran the numbers and yesterday said the governor is right about the utility bills at his official residence. The paper says the actual cost for utilities at the mansion the first year the governor lived there was over 108-thousand-dollars.
