Two people were injured in an accident that occurred in Fayette County on Saturday.
According to a press release from the Illinois State Police, the accident occurred at 4:10pm on I-70 westbound at milepost 63 in Vandalia. The report states that a car driven by 19 year old, Alivia L Drew, of Champaign was traveling westbound in the passing lane of I-70. In the right lane at the same location, a semi was being driven by 31 year old, Rajinder Singh, of Fresno, California. The Drew left the roadway to the left and entered the center median. The vehicle then reentered the roadway, crossed the passing lane, and struck the driver’s side rear tire of the trailer of Singh’s semi. After striking the tire, the Drew vehicle overturned onto its top, coming to a rest.
Drew and her passenger, 23 year old, James L Buford, of Rantoul were injured and transported to Fayette County Hospital for treatment. Drew was cited for improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, illegal transportation of alcohol, depositing material on the highway, operating uninsured motor vehicle, and obstructing an officer. Buford was cited illegal transportation of alcohol.
