The Chamber Foundation of Effingham County is accepting applications until April 2 for the 2018 Chamber Foundation Community Scholarship Program. The Foundation will award $1,000 scholarships to area graduating high school seniors and adults who are starting or continuing their education. The scholarship recipients will be recognized at the June 1st First Friday Luncheon.
Applicants for the Chamber Foundation Community Scholarship Program must be affiliated with a Chamber member firm, either as an employee of a Chamber member business or the child or spouse of an employee or owner. Interested applicants may check with their employer or with a high school or college counselor to determine if they qualify.
Qualifying criteria for the high school scholarships are: 1.) Must be a 2018 high school graduate who is an employee of a Chamber member business or family member of an employee or owner of a member business. 2.) Must have a grade point average of C or above. 3.) A letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, coach, administrator, employer or clergy must accompany the application and a copy of the student’s high school transcript and ACT/SAT scores and class rank is required.
Qualifying criteria for the adult scholarships are: 1.) Must be affiliated with a Chamber member business either as an employer, employee or family member of an employee or employer. 2.) Must be 18 years of age or older. 3.) Must enroll or be enrolled in an accredited college/university/training school by Fall 2018. Applicants will be asked to submit information about their educational background, employment history, and community service and involvement. A letter of recommendation from an employer, business associate, clergy, school administrator or teacher must accompany the application.
Requirements for the scholarships are listed on the application forms, which can be obtained from any Chamber member business with whom the applicant is affiliated, from area high school or college counselors, from the Chamber office located at 903 North Keller Drive in Effingham or from the Chamber’s web site at www.effinghamcountychamber.com. Deadline for submitting the application is Thursday, April 2, 2018 at 5:00 PM to be considered for judging.
The 2018 Scholarship Directory is now available online at www.effinghamcountychamber.com or can be obtained at the Chamber office. The directory lists local scholarships, requirements, deadlines, and other pertinent details of the scholarships.
