The Effingham County Chamber of Commerce recognized the 2018 recipients of the Excellence in Business Awards at the Annual Business Recognition Gala on Saturday, January 20th. The business recipients were John Boos & Company and Patton Printing & Graphics.
John Boos & Co., synonymous with Boos Blocks and used by professional and home chefs around the world, marked their 130th anniversary in 2017. And even more importantly, they opened their brand-new state of the art 116,000 sq. ft. wood manufacturing facility along South Route 45, completing the relocation of the business to a 27-acre campus that has 250,000 sq. ft. under roof and provides employment for 250+ area residents.
The new wood plant crafts over 200 models of the Boos Block hardwood cutting boards, as well as commercial and industrial hardwood countertops.
On the commercial side of the business, custom stainless steel fabrication, in the form of food service concessions, was implemented and installed in the following stadiums in 2017: Wrigley Field, Utah Jazz Arena (Salt Lake City), Colorado State University Stadiums, among others.

Dan and Madonna Patton started Patton Quik Print, a small copy shop, in 1982 offering a much needed service to the area. Soon they were offering more than copies and changed their name to Patton Printing & Graphics. Over the past 30-plus years, the company has grown into a full service business image provider, keeping up with the latest innovation in printing, which included a 1200 sq. ft. expansion in 2016.
With the expansion came improved production space, efficiency and equipment upgrades including the state-of-the-art digital printing equipment. They are proud to source over 85% of all the labor, supplies, raw materials and resources used locally.
The Chamber implemented the Excellence in Business in 2011 to recognize businesses for their outstanding contributions to our communities and the local economy through their continued growth, innovation, and community support. Past recipients include.
