Two people were injured in an accident that occurred 5 miles south of Salem on Sunday.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, the accident occurred on I-57 NB at 4:34pm on Sunday. The report states that a semi tractor-trailer being driven by 24 year old, Vaneisha S Thomas, of Springfield, Missouri was traveling northbound on I-57 in the right lane when Thomas lost control of the rig on the snow covered roadway. The semi then slid off the roadway to the left, slid down the median, and jackknifed. Thomas and a passenger, 28 year old, Jameese K Wright, of Birmingham, Alabama were injured and taken to Salem Township hospital.
Thomas was cited for failure to reduce speed and traveling too fast for conditions.
