(Chicago, IL) — The Republican tax bill could be bad news in the short run for many families in Chicago and the Cook County suburbs. Now that Congress has passed the bill, Governor Rauner is tacitly acknowledging that many people in the northern part of Illinois could actually see their taxes go up. He says capping the deduction for local property, sales and income taxes will make things difficult. He says it makes the need for tax reform more urgent. Mayor Emanuel pointed out that in Chicago many families will not only see a tax increase, but will also see their healthcare costs skyrocket.
