The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 12
Effingham, Ill – On October 30th at approximately 3:20 p.m., 56-year-old Beth Seals of Ellery was driving a 2015 bronze Ford when she stopped on the south side of US-50 and Main St while waiting to go north on Main in Clay City/County.
Norman Hesseltine of Mt. Pleasant Iowa, was driving a 2009 blue Peterbilt westbound on US-50.
44-year-old Billy Wyatt of Parkersburg was driving a 1998 white Buick eastbound on US-50.
Hesseltine slowed down as he was approaching the intersection when Seals continued through, but failed to yield Hesseltine.
Hesseltine attempted to swerve to the right, however seals struck Hesseltine’s vehicle on the trailer he was pulling with his vehicle.
Upon collision, seals spun out of control, and struck Wyatt on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Seals vehicle finally stopped in the middle of US-50 facing north.
During this time Hesseltine continued driving until coming to a stop on the right shoulder of US-50 facing west.
Wyatt was pushed into a ditch on the south side of the roadway facing south.
Seals suffered injuries, and was transported to Clay County Hospital for Treatment. Both Wyatt, and Hesseltine refused treatment at the time of the collision.
After the accident Seals was cited for failure to yield at an intersection.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
