Effingham, Ill – The Effingham County Chamber of Commerce with the assistance of Sheriff Dave Mahon of Effingham County is sponsoring an “Active Shooter Response Training” for members of the business, education, and medical community as well as the general public.
The class will be offered on Tuesday, November 7 th , from 7:30am- 12:00 noon at 1200 Network Center Drive, #2, Effingham, Illinois in the Heartland Dental Training Room.
Chamber President Norma Lansing said, “This class is in response to a need expressed by individuals and businesses for information on appropriate protocols and prioritization assistance and on what they can do should an incident occur”.
The class will be taught by Sgt. Mike Mobley, formerly with the Illinois State Police who holds the following credentials: Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, College Adjunct Professor in Criminal Justice for 25 years,
Illinois State Police officer for 25 years, Community Violence Prevention Officer for 5 years, Illinois State Police Defensive Tactics Instructor for 12 years, Certified Juvenile Police Officer for 38 years, Truant Officer for ROE #13, and FBI Certified Defensive Tactics Instructor.
The course will include:
- How to prepare for and manage an active shooter situation.
- How to de-escalate and step down aggression.
- How to intervene quickly and safely in adult and juvenile crisis situations.
- How to safely restrain individuals.
- How State and Federal laws work for your agency.
Homeland Security Guidelines will be given.
There is no charge for this training, however registration is required.

HRCI, SHRM, PD/Continuing Education Credits are pending. It is recommended that participants wear comfortable clothing.
