Four teens were arrested in connection with burglaries that occurred on Tuesday in Flora.
According to a press release from the Clay County Sheriff’s Department and the Flora Police Department at 5:00pm, the Sheriff’s Department was alerted to a residential burglary that occurred south of Flora. They were then alerted to a second burglary in the same area. Taken during these two burglaries were firearms. At 6:00pm, the Flora Police Department was alerted to a group of four juveniles that were acting suspicious at a residence on Martha Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered three males and one female in the backyard of the residence. These juvenile then fled on foot and two males were apprehended. One 9mm handgun was recovered as well. The Sheriff’s Department then took this gun into evidence, as it was believed to have been connected to the previous burglaries.
On Wednesday at 9:00pm, the Clay County Sheriff’s Department were alerted by the Effingham Police Department that they had taken two juveniles into custody on Clay County warrants issued by the Sheriff’s Department and Flora PD for the burglaries. The two juveniles were taken to Clay County Jail, where they were later transported to Franklin County Detention Center.
According to Clay County State’s Attorney, Joel Powless, the four teens are being charged with Burglary (Accountability).
