(Urbana, IL) — Illini fans aren’t happy that another tradition is going away. The University of Illinois last week announced it will no longer play the War Chant at football and basketball games. U of I athletics spokesman Kent Brown said last week that the idea to cancel the chant has been talked about for years. The school finally made the decision because fewer and fewer people were cheering along. Fans say they’re heartbroken and angry at the school for not publicly discussing an end to the chant.
