A Mattoon man was recently sentenced to eight years in prison.
24 year old, Daniel L Parks, of Mattoon recently entered guilty pleas in Coles County Court for Aggravated Battery to Peace Officer, Attempting to Disarm a Peace Officer/Correctional Employee, and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse/Victim Under the Age of 13, all Class 2 Felonies. For the charge of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse to a victim under 13, Parks was sentenced to 5 years in the Department of Corrections with 147 days of Credit Time Served. For the Aggravated Battery of a Peace Officer, Parks was sentenced to 3 years in the DOC, which will be served consecutive to the 5 years, with 10 days of Credit Time Served. For Attempting to Disarm a PO/Correctional Employee, Parks was sentenced to another three years, which will be served concurrent with the previous three years. After being released from prison, Parks will serve four years of Mandatory Supervised Release, or Parole.
Additionally, Parks was charged with two counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a victim under 13 years of age, a Class X Felony. These charges were dismissed.
