A Salem woman was injured in an accident that occurred on I-70 eastbound in Cumberland County at 8:25pm on Friday.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, 36 year old, Gilbert Sidener, of Salem was traveling eastbound on I-70. At the same time 34 year old, Samuel Murray, of Swansea was traveling eastbound on I-70. As the result of a previous crash in the same area, traffic on I-70 was slowed/stopped from a traffic backup. Sidener stated that he had not seen that Murray was slowing in front of him in time to slow his own vehicle. Sidener rear ended Murray. Murray’s vehicle was knocked off of the roadway and came to a rest in the median. Sidener’s vehicle came to a rest down an embankment on the south side of I-70. Sidener’s passenger, 36 year old, April Lepes, of Salem was transported by ambulance to Regional Hospital in Terre Haute for treatment.
Gilbert Sidener was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, traveling too fast for conditions, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
