Four people were injured in an accident that occurred two miles west of Casey on I-70 westbound at approximately 11:46am on May 27th.
According to a report from the Illinois State Police, 50 year old, Hassan Masuo Aweiss, of Lewiston, Maine was traveling westbound on I-70 in a Toyota van. Traveling with Aweiss was a 50 year old passenger of Auburn, Maine, and a 27 year old, an 8 year old, a 6 year old, a 3 year old, and a 1 year old passengers, all of Lewiston, Maine. At the same time, 26 year old, Lukon Azizov, of Brooklyn, New York was traveling on I-70 westbound in a semi. Aweiss attempted to pass Azizov and lost control of the van, leaving the roadway on the left. Aweiss over-corrected, veering across the roadway to the right and struck a concrete structure support. The van deflected off of the concrete support to the left, striking its right side. The van then slid off of the roadway to the right and traveled through the ditch for 123 feet before coming to a rest.
Aweiss and one of the juvenile passengers were taken to the hospital by ambulance. The two adult passengers were transported by Air-Evac. Aweiss is being charged with improper lane usage.
