Through support from the Lake Land College Foundation and the Frances Watts Johnston Memorial Fund, local students from 19 areas junior high schools will perform in the Frances Watts Johnston Junior High Honors Band and Chorus Festival.
More than 130 students will perform in the music festival, which is set to be held on May 5th at 6:30pm in the Lake Land College Field House. Rehearsal is scheduled for April 27th from 6:30pm to 8:15pm. The festival is coordinated by Lake Land College’s Music Instructor, Nancy Caldwell. Retired Danville High School band director, Mark Lindvahl will direct this year’s band, while Mattoon School’s choir director, Angi Black, will direct this year’s choir. Marci Cole, retired faculty member of Pana School District, will accompany the choir. Musical selections included in the festival are Bye Bye Blackbird, Earth Song, Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor, Freedom Finale, Korean Folk Rhapsody, and Miss Liberty March. The Choir and Band will join together for the finale of God Bless America.
Junior High Schools that will be participating in this festival are Casey-Westfield, Crestwood, Cumberland, Dieterich, Effingham, Kansas, Lovington, Marshall, Mattoon, Moulton, North Clay, Pana, Ramsey, South Central, St. Anthony, St. John’s Lutheran School, Shiloh, Stewardson-Strasburg, and Windsor.
