The Effingham County Board is holding a special meeting Wednesday at 3:00 PM in the Effingham County Office Building to take action on a three year legal battle with Altamont Ambulance. The issue stems from a County Board action in 2014 that would allow other ambulance companies to handle non-emergency transfers in Effingham County which Altamont Ambulance said was a breach in their contract and sued. The county counter sued, claiming that Altamont Ambulance had breached the contract.
However, since last month an agreement was approved by both parties, although the details have not been released. The Board is set to take action on the litigation on Wednesday. Part of that action could be authorizing the sale of the ambulance service contract to another provider.
