(Springfield, IL) — Former President Obama’s birthday won’t be designated a holiday in Illinois anytime soon. A proposal that would close state facilities and schools each year on August 4th was voted down yesterday by Illinois House members. Opponents raised concerns about the measure including the economic impact of shutting down state buildings on holidays. Illinois Representative Sonya Harper did use a parliamentary move to keep the proposal alive for another try.
