(East St. Louis, IL) — A Nigerian man is heading to prison for defrauding hundreds of lonely women in Illinois, Missouri and other states out of nearly two-million-dollars. Olayinka Ilumsa Sunmola of Lagos has been sentenced to 27-years in federal prison for pretending to be soldiers working overseas and luring women into sending money and merchandise, often with the promise of romance or marriage. Prosecutors in East St. Louis say he used the money to buy expensive cars, four parcels of land in South Africa and a home in Nigeria. He’s also been ordered to pay restitution.
