With the big game this weekend, Illinois State Police (ISP) Troopers will be on the lookout for signs of drunk driving. Patrols will strictly enforce Fatal Four violations that that include DUI, speeding, failure to wear seat belt, and distracted driving.
ISP officers issued 2,494 Fatal Four Violations last year on the big game weekend. 200 of those were alcohol related, nearly double than the previous year. District 12 troopers will be conducting roving patrols along with roadside safety checks throughout the weekend in high fatality areas.
“Enjoy the game and surrounding activities, but remember your responsibility in making sure everyone gets home safely after the festivities conclude”, said District 12 Commander, Captain Cory Ristvedt.
Alcohol is a leading factor in fatal traffic crashes, specifically on celebratory weekends. Motorist who plan on drinking alcohol should have an alternative method of getting home or appoint a designated driver.
