A Nokomis resident recently achieved the top enlisted rank in the Illinois Air National Guard. Amanda Stewart, of Nokomis, has been promoted to a Chief Master Sergeant.
Amanda Stewart enlisted in the Illinois Air National Guard in 1990, working as a material storage and distribution specialist for the 183rd Fighter Wing in Springfield. In 1994, Stewart became a full-time tools and parts attendant in Springfield. Stewart has been deployed twice for Operation Enduring Freedom, in 2002 to Bahrain and in 2006 to Qatar. In 2008, she transferred to Scott Air Force Base, working for the 126th Air Refueling Wing.
Following her promotion, Stewart will serve as the Supply Chain Management Squadron Superintendent for the 126th Air Refueling Wing.
