The freezing rain advisory for Effingham and surrounding areas continues through Sunday at noon.
Ice accumulation of up to one tenth inch is expected. This will lead to icy roads and sidewalks. Continue to use caution when traveling and be ready for slick roads.
Effingham County EMA reminds residents that falling due to ice could be deadly if you’re unable to get back indoors as conditions are favorable for Hypothermia. Frostbite is also a threat with below freezing temperatures. Ensure to cover all extremities when going outdoors in icy weather. Additionally carry a cell phone and make sure to inform someone where you are going and when you plan to be back.
County residents in need of emergency warming can contact the Sheriff’s Office at 217-342-2101.
