A freezing rain advisory continues Friday night into Saturday. With it comes slick roads and sidewalks. Ice will accumulate throughout the night as temperatures drop below freezing. Rain will likely continue all day Saturday and into Sunday.
Residents should avoid travel if possible and exercise caution if, and when, going out. If roads are too slick, find a safe place to take shelter until ice is cleared.
Effingham County EMA reminds residents that falling due to ice could be deadly if you’re unable to get back indoors as conditions are favorable for Hypothermia. Frostbite is also a threat with below freezing temperatures. Ensure to cover all extremities when going outdoors in icy weather. Additionally carry a cell phone and make sure to inform someone where you are going and when you plan to be back.
