The Illinois Sheriff’s Association is warning Illinois residents of telemarketing scam using the name of “Disabled Police and Sheriff’s Foundation.” This group is not registered with any legitimate sheriff’s association or listed in the state of Illinois Attorney General’s Charitable Database. They have also been known to use the names American Police & Sheriff’s Association, DPSF, and the Police Officers Safety Association. If you receive a call from any of these groups, simply hang up.
While organizations do use legitimate phone solicitation companies to raise funds for worthy causes, the Illinois Sheriff’s Association does not. Anyone claiming to call on their behalf to raise funds is not legitimate. Such calls should be reported to the local sheriff’s office or to the Illinois Sheriff’s Association at ISA@ilsheriff.com.
