(Carbondale, IL) — Once again, Illinois’ universities are having to decide if they’re going to put themselves on the hook for millions of dollars in student aid. Only about half of the state’s schools say they’ll credit MAP grants for the spring semester. The MAP grants cover tuition for students in need, and are often the only way some students can attend college. Southern Illinois, Eastern Illinois, and Illinois State universities all say they’ll cover students for the spring semester, even without a new state budget.
