(Chicago, IL) — After another state budget summit among the four legislative leaders and Governor Rauner, the two sides aren’t budging toward a deal as the end of the year approaches. Illinois Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno said Democrats show no urgency, and doing nothing, she says, isn’t an option. House Speaker Michael Madigan says the governor’s insistence that anti-union reforms be passed with the budget is what’s created this crisis. He accused Rauner of holding the budget-making process hostage for the benefit of his wealthy friends and large corporations. Madigan’s offering to form legislative groups to develop bills addressing Rauner’s reforms. Most of the current budget expires at the end of the year.
