The Illinois State Police in District 12 are urging motorists to be safe this Thanksgiving Travel Season. The ISP will be stepping up enforcement efforts over the holiday travel season that begins on Wednesday and runs though Sunday. High amounts of traffic are expected during that time, especially on Thanksgiving. Statistics indicate that fatal crashes increase during the season.
“During the holiday driving period there will be a large volume of traffic on the roadways,” stated District 12 Commander, Captain Cory Ristvedt. “We will be increasing patrols to watch for motorists who may be driving in an unsafe manner. We will especially be watching for drivers committing any of the Fatal Four moving violations,” he said.
During the holiday period, ISP patrols will be especially on the lookout for the fatal four traffic violations of Speeding, DUI, Distracted Driving, and not wearing a seat belt. Special emphasis will be placed on DUI patrols.
“Our number one goal over the holiday weekend is to reduce the number of fatalities on Illinois roadways,” said ISP Colonel Tad Williams. “We ask that motorists think twice about safe driving habits before getting behind the wheel. Please watch your speed, buckle up, and don’t drive distracted or while under the influence,” he stated.
