Congressman John Shimkus has committed to vote for Republican Donald Trump in the upcoming general election. After defeating State Senator Kyle McCarter in the primary, Shimkus is unopposed in his bid for re-election—so he is making normal stops visiting his district during this election cycle. Shimkus says it’s been a long election season and that he plans to remain loyal to his party’s nominee.
He’s not the first Illinois Republican to throw their support behind the GOP’s controversial candidate. State Senator Dale Righer also committed his support to Trump last week during an interview with Effingham Radio News.
