After going 5-4 and missing out on the playoffs the last two years, Cumberland won’t need playoff points this year. Cumberland defeated Villa Grove 44-0 and clinched the Conference Championship for the first time in school history.
Cumberland played a great overall game. The Pirates gained 509 yards of total offense, 243 thru the air and 226 on the ground. The Pirate defense only gave up a total of 64 yards.
Cumberland got on the board with 6:42 left in the first quarter on a Keaton Titus 1 yard touchdown run. Cumberland added another score with 41.5 seconds left in the first quarter on a Brody Donsbach 79 yard TD pass to Tyson Magee. That score made it 16-0 after one quarter. Cumberland added another score in the second quarter on another Donsbach to Magee pass, this time for 65 yards. Cumberland led 22-0 at the half.
In the third quarter Cumberland came out and score with 5:54 left in the third on a Donsbach 39 yard touchdown run. Cumberland then added another touchdown on a Donsbach 1 yard run. Cumberland added one more score with 7.9 second left in the third on a 29 yard run by Titus.
Cumberland improves to 5-3 on the season and finish 5-0 in conference play. Cumberland will face 7-1 Argenta next week.
