An 18-year-old male from Dieterich was stabbed Friday morning around 10 a.m. after an altercation broke out at a residence located at 204 West Center Street in Dieterich. An ambulance was dispatched along with backup from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, the Effingham Police Department, and the Illinois State Police. According to the Sheriff’s Office, two suspects were apprehended during the incident. The victim was flown to Carle Hospital in Urbana and has since been stabilized. The names of those involved are being withheld during on ongoing investigation.
All partied involved in the incident have been identified and there is no danger to the public.
Dieterich schools were on a brief “soft” lockdown due to their proximity to the location of the incident. No students or staff were involved. Schools have since returned to their normal schedules. Dieterich Principal Kevin Haarman said that while the stabbing had nothing to do with the school, it was too close for comfort.
