The Effingham County Legislative/Personnel Committee of the Whole approved a new ordinance regarding travel reimbursements for county employees. While the county has policies in place for travel and lodging expenditures they are not official, making them guidelines instead of rules. According to Chairman Jim Niemann, adding the policies as actual ordinances will put the county in compliance with state law.
The Committee also discussed the possibility of making a major healthcare change for county employees. Niemann said the county was looking into a partially self-funded plan that would save on the costs of rising premiums.
The process of moving to a new healthcare program could take up to six months.
