An Arcola man was injured in a three vehicle accident on I-57, near mile post 167 in Effingham County, early Thursday Morning.
At approximately 4:58 a.m. 35-year-old Gerold A Jewell, of Arcola, was was heading southbound on I-57 when he failed to slow, striking the rear of a vehicle driven by 46-year-old Terry L. Tribble, of Pocahontas. Jewell’s vehicle was disabled in the roadway, with no lighting, as a result of the collision. A third vehicle driven by 69-year-old Donald E. Whitwood, of Hudson, was unable to see Jewell’s vehicle in road and stuck it after attempting swerve. Whitwood’s vehicle left the roadway on the right, jack-knifed, and came to rest on the west side.
Jewell was taken to St. Anthony’s in Effingham for treatment and charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
